The Trusting Life
When we talk about giving in the church, there can be a tendency to focus on what we get as a result – the blessed life. But instead, what if we saw giving as an opportunity to grow in trust and dependence on God? What if our lack of generosity, or consistent and ordinary giving (tithes), or extraordinary acts of giving (offerings) is a symptom of a much larger problem/issue – we simply don’t trust God.
In Malachi 3, God charges His people with robbing Him, and yet, He is the God who owns everything, the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalms), and who gives to all men life, and breath, and everything else so that He is not served by human hands as if he needed anything (Acts). Perhaps we are robbing God, not with money or possessions, but the opportunity for him to come through and demonstrate His goodness and grace towards us.
A one-off sermon on the topic of giving tithes and offerings.
