Loved to the End (John 13:1-30)
On the night in which Jesus was betrayed, He took bread and cup to share a meal with His disciples. At that meal, Jesus got up and stopped down to wash the disciples’ feet, an act of humility reserved only for servants and slaves. And in this way, Jesus shares ultimate reality with those who He loves: true love, to the end, looks like service that meets our deepest need. This is what Jesus has come to do, and is preparing to accomplish on the cross. But before He goes to Calvary, He gets down on a knee and cleanses those who are His from that which is making them unclean. And He offers this even to one who would soon betray Him.
In this sermon we learn what true love, the love of God in Christ, looks like. In response, Pastor Chris led us in a time of identifying and releasing from our hearts and minds those particular people and situations that have marked us as betrayals and painful memories in order to more fully receive the grace, mercy, and love of God in Christ as we approach His table at the Lord’s Supper.
